What a cookie is
A cookie is a small text file that a website asks your browser to store and then send back on later visits, which is how a site recognises a returning browser. Cookies can be set by the site you are visiting or by other companies whose code runs on its pages, and the second kind is what makes tracking across different websites possible.
This site sets none
Beacon Hub sets no cookies of its own, and permits no third party to set a cookie through it. To be specific, because a vague statement here would be worth nothing:
- No analytics of any kind. There is no Google Analytics, no Microsoft tag, no Meta pixel, no self-hosted analytics and no server-side measurement beyond the ordinary web server log described below.
- No advertising tags, no conversion pixels, no remarketing, no audience lists.
- No A/B testing, heatmap, session recording or personalisation tool.
- No social media embeds, no video embeds, no comment system, no chat widget.
- No fonts, scripts or stylesheets loaded from any third-party host, including content delivery networks. Every file is served from beaconhub.online itself.
- No session cookie, because there is nothing to log into — the site has no accounts and no forms.
The consequence is that there is no consent banner on this site. A banner exists to obtain permission for cookies; where none are set, there is nothing to consent to, and a banner asking anyway would be a false statement about what the site does. If you have arrived here expecting to find a list of cookies and their purposes, there is genuinely no list to publish — not a short one, not an empty table, none.
What happens instead
Two things, neither of which involves a cookie.
The web server keeps a log. Every web server does. Each request produces an entry recording the network (IP) address, the browser's user agent string, the page requested, the date and time, the response code and the referring page if your browser sends one. These logs belong to the hosting provider, are used for keeping the site running and defending it from abuse, and are deleted or overwritten within 30 days. They are not linked to any identity and are not used to profile readers. The privacy policy sets this out in full, including the cross-border disclosure that hosting outside Australia involves.
Your browser keeps its own cache. Browsers store copies of files such as the stylesheet so pages load faster on a second visit. This is ordinary browser behaviour that we do not control and cannot read; it is not a cookie and tells us nothing.
No local storage, and no fingerprinting
This site does not use localStorage, sessionStorage or IndexedDB. Nothing is written to your browser's storage at any point — not a preference, not a dismissed notice, not a theme setting. Nor does it attempt browser fingerprinting: no canvas or audio probing, no font enumeration, no device or hardware interrogation, no scripted collection of any kind. The only JavaScript on the site is a short first-party file that opens the navigation menu, and you can read it at /assets/main.js.
Links to other sites
Where this site links out — to an Australian government body, or to the vendor named in our affiliate disclosure — the site you arrive at has its own cookies and its own policies, which we neither control nor speak for. This policy covers beaconhub.online and stops at its edge. No cookie is set here before, during or after you follow such a link, and no identifier of any kind is attached as you leave.
Controlling cookies anyway
Whatever any individual site does, you can manage cookies yourself. Every current browser lets you view stored cookies, delete them, block third-party cookies or block cookies entirely, through its settings — usually under a privacy or site-data heading. Browsers also offer a private browsing mode that discards cookies when the window closes. Blocking cookies broadly will break sites that depend on them for logging in; it will have no effect on Beacon Hub, which works identically either way.
If this ever changes
If cookies or any third-party service were introduced to this site, this page would be updated to describe each one and its purpose before anything was set, and a working consent mechanism would be in place from the first day. No cookie would be set on any reader's browser in advance of that. We would rather keep the current arrangement, in which nothing has to be explained because nothing is happening.
